I know its been a while since we blogged, we have been busy trying to get some shows booked, so we can have something too blog about.

Over the weekend we got an awesome opportunity to be on orlando live internet tv show. It was shot live and we got a chance to show off one of new songs tentatively called "Heavy Sounds."

operation backpack show 8/8/09 v-log

Hey Guys,

We had an amazing show with Operation Backpack at East Coast Believers Church. Every year they put together a huge community outreach where they provide back packs filled with school supplies to families who can't afford to buy them for their children. There was a lot of people out there and it was pretty cool playing in front of totally new crowd. We met a lot of new faces, and i hope we get to see you all soon. Jonny Magic from th xl 106.7 morning show was there handing out school supplies as well. It was an amazing day, thanks to everyone who came out and supported an amazing cause.

Dunkin Donuts Doughboy !!!

Hey Guys,

So i drove to DD to do what I frequently do every day at work. I went to buy a small cup of coffee, and a eat and ol' fashion DD. I eat an ol' fashion DD because I HAD (keyword HAD=past tense) the idea that it had less calories than the other donuts. WRONG!!! The ol' fashion has just as many calories as the boston kreme, how is that possible. Its not glazed or creme filled and yet you can devolop a stomach tire just as quick by eating one of them. BTW the donut has 280 calories, i dont know why i was thinking it only had 100...The average guy my age/height/weight is suppose to have 2500 calories P/DAY...man based upon that figure if i eat a couple of donuts every day i am on my way to become obese. Well i guess i have to figure out a lower calorie snack, maybe i should just go buy some fruits and snack on them....Man its tough trying to get 300 the movie abs.

Michael Jackson passing on....Vitiligo

Hey Bloggers, I am sure you have all heard that Michael Jackson has passed away. If you haven't, stop living in a cave, and remember to shower:) Anyways, his passing has hit a lot of people hard. Maybe its because a piece of everyones childhood kinda of passed away as well. When I was young I remember that it was a big deal every time he released a new music video. I still remember being very excited to see "Black or White" on prime-time television in the early nineties. And like usual after every video I saw, I tried to imitate his dance moves. The last couple days I have been reliving his music on youtube, man he has a lot of hits.

I stumbled across one particular video on you-tube that really caught my eye. Everyone knows Michael's skin color was much darker when he was younger. And like most people who fall into the grasp of main stream media, I believed he bleached his skin. First of all, is even possible to bleach ones skin like that. Anyways, in the video it talks about vitiligo which is the skin disease he claimed to have. It showed the nature of the disease and what it actually does to people who get it. Its definitely rare disease that no on really talks about. If you guys get a chance check it out and let me know what you think....

WHY I DECIDED TO PLAY DRUMS

I could not tell you specifically what year it was, but i do remember i was either 8 or 9. By the way this is Tom, i wanna make sure your not confusing me with Tony or Benji, they probably have there own stories on how they got started. My Dad came home one day and told us that he would be sending us to lesson to play an instrument. My older brother was right next to me and Tony was taking a shower. My father gave us three options, drums, guitar or piano. These three instruments were selected because they were the most common instruments played in our church band. I spoke first and immediately belted out " i got the drums". My older brother chose guitar and by default Tony got piano, lol, which he was not really pleased with. The reason why i wanted to play drums was because of the drummer we had in our church, his name was Frank. I remember thinking how awesome he was and how it looked like he was having so much fun when he played. Later he also became my first drum teacher. In the first nine years of playing i slacked off a lot and went from teacher to teacher, I never practiced and rarelyed played. That all changed in 2003 when we started the band. Thinking back i wish i would have taken it more seriously, but hey that's life i guess sometimes you don't appreciate things until your much older. I still remember when one of my teachers told me that unless i practiced i would not be able to get on MTV like one of his other students had done before... he asked me if i wanted to ultimately make it on the cable channel in which i proudly said "NO" i have no interest. I guess a lot has changed in 15 years, hahaha..

How's everyone doing out there in bloggerville?...If you read the title you might have figured out what i am gonna talk about...That's right weve been bitten by the Mac Bug..The wound is big and I dont think it will heal anytime soon. We decided to get the new mac book pro, so we can officially be on top of the media game for the band...I wanna blog more, I wanna v log more, and maybe even do an Ichat or two. The pro look amazing and I cant wait till I get it...I feel like a kid on Christmas who has been good all last year and is waiting for Santa to give me something spectacular..(a bit dramtic huh)

It being shipped from China, I guess they get cheap Labor there...Side note

OUR FIRST SONG!!!

Our First Song

It was August of 2003 and we had been talking for a couple of weeks about the formation of the band. We all discussed that after church on a Sunday would be the best opportunity for all our schedules to be in sync with each others. O by the way, this is my relocation of the events that happened, if you ask Benji or Tony it might be a little different. So I remember thinking to myself “how the heck do you write a song”, lol. Then I asked Benji the same question I had asked myself and he was like “dude its easy”, not knowing Benji had wrote his own songs before, lol. Within an hour he had composed the lyric of the song and scribbled them on a note pad. The name of the song was yesterday. It was titled that because it was the main premise that continued throughout the song. Basically the song was about forgetting about what happened yesterday and also forgetting about what others have said about you. I could not believe how good it came out and ultimately thought Ben had stolen the lyrics and the melody from some other main stream band. This was just the first of many times I have been impressed with his song writing. Throughout the writing process myself and brother sat on the left and right of Ben helping him fledge out the lyrics and continue the overall coherence of the song. At this time Tony was still thought to be the lead singer and was given the opportunity to sing the song first. Ben was very enthusiastic about it and was trying to teach the vocal melody of the song to him. I remember Ben singing the melody to Tony and thinking to myself wow I never knew Benji could sing and especially sing as good as that, haha I guess he impressed me a lot that first day. After Tony and him went back and forth with the teaching of the song, I told Tony, “how about we let Ben sing this song”, and I remember him looking visibly upset, but I truly believe that it was suppose to happen like that. Forward six years and wow man I’m glad it did… lol sorry Tony… really wish we had record that song so I could share it with you guys but I will post the lyrics:

Holly's & Dolly's Show Recap (May 29)

Last night we had a show at Holly's and Dolly's in Casselberry, FL; we had a great time and it was a fun show to play. We got to demo a new song, which we still haven't thought of a name for...The sound was great and the vibe was awesome, big thanks to BP productions for bring us out to play. I also want to give a special shout out to one of our good friends Anderson for all the help setting up and breaking down.

Next show will be June 13 in Gainsville @ First Assembly Church , its a benefit show and I am guaranteeing it will be amazing!!! hope to see you all there

Ben's First Blog!!!

Well well well,

The time has finally come...after days of 'forgeting to write' only to be beat senseless by Tom and Tony, I've finally sit down to write. To be quite honest, part of my forgetfulness has been fueled by fear..."What do I say?", "What will they think?" and "That sounds so lame in my head!" In the end, I just figured that I'd write about whatever came into mind. So here goes:

Why do you do what you're doing in your lives? Regardless of whether you're a doctor, a salesperson, or a musician like me why do you do what you do? I ask this question because recently I've been running into a large amount of people who have no real purpose or drive. I'm not saying they are evil or bad or anything, just that they're doing what they're doing for no real reason at all.

I believe that every person is put here for a reason. I believe we're given a particular set of skills and given the passion to pursue those things. Yeah, we might learn to enjoy other things than what we're good at, or we might choose other paths, but I feel people are here for a reason.

With that in mind, I guess I've been thinking recently that even though I've been working hard trying to get better at what I do, I've been losing sight of why I do what I do. I don't ever want to become that musician, that friend, that _______ that just does what he does because it's all he can do. I want to be great. I'd rather not live a life of mediocrity, I'd rather live a life of epic proportions. Most of all, I believe that it is we who choose how we live, not circumstances, not people. So to whoever has the misfortune of reading this long rant (lol):

Pursue excellence in what you do. Not because you've got something to prove, but because the passion in your heart will let you stop at nothing less.

RECORDING OUR FIRST DEMO

It was the early part of 2004 and we all decided to get our money together and record a demo. The band at this point was a four piece, we consisted of myself (Tom), Benji, Tony and my cousin Joel George. One of Tony’s friends from work told us about a studio that a popular local band had used and was very affordable. In an attempt to protect the identity of the business I shall not divulge the name, lol. This is because this was the worst recording experience I or any of the other guys have ever had. The studio was a Smokey, small cramped all in one room. The equipment seemed to be made sometime in circa 1985, so you could imagine the quality. We decided to record a four track demo. The songs recorded were some of the first songs we ever wrote. Recording turned out to be a tedious task, the studio was not capable of punching in, so if you messed up you had to start from the beginning. Because recording was new to us WE MESSED UP A LOT!!! After numerous mistakes and wasted time the recording engineer started getting upset with us and at one point raised his voice and said “if you can’t get it now you probably never will”. Finally we just kept the best takes, which in all examples of professional recording sounded like absolute garbage!!!! Two weeks later we received the mixed and mastered versions of that session, as soon as we put it in the CD player we were extremely disappointed haha. Just goes to show you that sometimes it does not pay or SOUND GOOD to be FROOGLE!!!!!

PS. I would post some of those early recordings but I’m almost positive the other guys would punch me in the nose

REHEARSAL SPACE TOUR

Hey guys and gals this is our first v-log and our first attempt at video editing, tell us what you think??? This is where we put togather songs as well as rehearse for shows. Were in here about 3-4 days a week, so it is definately our secound home. However theres no food, drink and or bathrooms, o well theres always outside i guess, lol.

Why did we start the band?

So it was the summer of 2003, and i remember the day we decided to start the band. BTW this is Tony, the bass player...i bet you my version of the story is going to be slightly different from the other guys....Partly because i have the worse memory possible, but my memory is something i am working on with crossword puzzles and memory games (feel free to give me any ideas to keep my memory sharp)...man i sound like i am 75...anyways

All three of us knew eachother since we were kids, i actually remember Benji since he was really young (he's 4 years younger than Tom and I)....Benji was a weird ackward kid, that use to talk to kitchen appliances!!!...lol ("hi Mr toaster, how do you do today") But he was super smart, loved to read, a pretty big geek, but overall a super nice kid. Anyways, since we were all young our parents pushed (forced) us into playing music, partly because they wanted us to be apart of the churches choir. I actually didnt get to play guitar till i got into college, but i started off singing in the choir (dor re me fa so la tee do)...Tom started playing the drums, in middleschool because the drummer of our church graduated and moved away for college. Benji also played bass and sang in the choir...So when started off none of us were really playing or doing the things we would be doing as Built to be Broken...One sunday, in the summer of 2003 we were talking after church about doing some music on the side together as a hobby, and thats when technically we formed.

It wasnt just three of us then, my cuzzin Joel was the fourth memember of the band...And when we started I was the lead singer (thank God we changed that)...It wasnt till one day that i came late to practice and i heard Benji and Tom writing a new song that i learned i was soon going to be replaced. I remember Tom asking if it would be cool if Benji sang this song, i was actually pretty upset about it...But then i heard Benji sing, and i was totally blown away!!! I thought to myself well we got a new lead singer...We kept writing songs and playing here and there, and after a year we had written over 100 songs!!! We definetly started feeling like this music things was transforming from a hobby into something we would be doing for the rest of our lives...
